Imagine if everyone did their own surgeries - or prescribed their own medicines. “Doctor, thank you for calling me but I won’t need you to do the heart surgery. I looked online and got the details. My cousin Bubba is going to help me? Oh, and by the way, my Auntie Sally gave me some of her drugs to make me feel better.” Sounds crazy, right. So then, why are thousands of business owners willing to operate on their own company rather than let an expert take charge?
I am referring to Employee Engagement, Productivity, and Retention. “Why yes, Aaron, we do see the value of a good engagement program. But we are doing it ourselves.” How is that working for you? “45% turnover rate; haven’t really did the specs on Productivity but it seems like we could do better.”
I applaud these agencies for knowing that they need an Employment Engagement plan in place however if they handle it themselves, it’s like self operation. A larger firm might have a separate department for this activity but still, large or small, here are three reasons why you should always use an outside agency to manage your Employee Engagement program.
1. Honest answers and feedback from your staff. Let’s be honest, very few employees will really tell you what they really truly feel if they have the slightest inclination it will cause them to lose their jobs. Anonymity is the key to honest responses. An outside agency has a greater chance of providing this anonymity to each and every employee.
2. Lack of bias. An outside agency is exactly that – outside looking in. Listening to the words, opinions, criticisms, and accolades of your management and staff. Outside agencies don’t form opinions based on past behavior, company gossip, or clique relationships. They focus on data provided through surveys, consultations, and honest feedback, process this data, and provide you with their analysis.
3. Expert information and resources. When you need a doctor, lawyer, plumber, etc. you call them. When you need an Engagement expert – and you do – you call them. That is what they do. Every day, every week, every month, every year. They have worked with agencies like yours, smaller than yours, bigger than yours. They have heard stories, identified problems, and found solutions. Just like the doctor, lawyer, or plumber.
Your employees are your most valuable asset but, more than that, they are people who need to be respected and valued, for their work, their contribution, and their presence. A solid Employee Engagement program can solidify your standing among your employees and create honest, loyal, and productive employees. Something that important – why trust to anyone but an expert. After all, you wouldn’t remove your own spleen…would you?
